ACTIVITIES

Every " First Saturday" of the month (except for January), MALAMA WAIPIO AND Waipio Valley Educational Center  hosts participants for their intergrational Workshops and Lectures; other educational institutions, community groups, the general public and private groups to engage in Malama ko 'aina in the lo'i, Iwi kupunaʻaina "ancestral burials" and the surrounding mala (gardens).

These "hands-on" activities help to grow an individual's understanding of their ha'awina (lessons) that is offered at WVEC, along with conversing with Hawaiian language speakers, while contributing to the Health and Wellbeing of Waipio Valley.

Malama Waipio will be responsible for supporting the building of the infrastructure to WVEC facilities. It is a part of the Education of the Ancient Hawaiian Knowledge and Wisdom of the ahupua'a of the cultural and traditional ways of Life.

As part of our dedication to perpetuating the Hawaiian 'ike, WVEC maintains a number of traditional Hawaiian varieties of kalo, teaches kalo farming and traditional resource management courses in conjunction with others for Hawaiian Studies, and also will host "Malama e Haloa", an annual symposium on Kalo every Spring.
